"Living with the Sea" is the survival wisdom ingrained in the islanders of Shengsi for millennia, and it is also the soulful declaration of this ocean-facing project. Confronted with the natural elevation difference between the original buildings, which follow the mountainous terrain and are arranged in picturesque disorder, and the majestic sea views, we adopted "following the natural order" as our design principle. The transformation is not an imposition but a meticulous reorganization, allowing the buildings to naturally turn like waves, embracing the ocean, and weaving an unobstructed, ultimate viewing perspective for the homestay cluster. This is not only a reverent tribute to the cultural context of the island but also a profound awakening of the project's future commercial value. The design humbly conforms to the village's original fabric, using dynamic stairways and multi-level platforms as connectors to skillfully bridge the height differences between the buildings. The building volumes respond to the flow of the sea breeze, with expansive sloped surfaces interspersed with cubic forms, like carefully composed viewframes that eternally "borrow" the ever-changing sea and sky scenery into the interior. Vertically carved lightwells allow sunlight to pour in, infusing the space with a vitality that evolves with time. The language of materials speaks of the land's deep affection. Rough and primal reef elements are boldly introduced into the interior, serving as visual anchors and spiritual totems, instantly condensing the profound strength of island culture into a realm of simplicity and tranquility. Stone and wood, these natural materials rooted in the local environment, are the designer's silent tribute to regional identity, while also embodying a practical responsibility to protect the fragile island ecosystem. The extensive use of blank space rejects redundant ornamentation, allowing the space to return to its essence with a natural aura. It stands quietly, waiting for time, the greatest artist, to slowly imbue its surfaces with unique texture and stories.
